“Most of my students make a career in something other than music, and it’s fun to see my flutists becoming doctors, teachers, lawyers, businesspeople, and psychologists, to name a few.”

Merrilee Elliott values one-on-one attention and strives "to see that each student is treated as an individual and that he or she is able to realize his or her potential according to his or her abilities." She hopes that her interactions with students will foster "growth as a musician and a person."

In addition to individual attention, Elliott provides impressive credentials. As a flutist, she has played with the Lexington Philharmonic, Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra, Ashland Trio, Jefferson Duo, and Lexington Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet.

Not one to toot her own flute, the modest musician claims, "I learn from my students, both from their ideas and by having to examine my thoughts carefully so that I am able to communicate them to the students." Undoubtedly, though, the flutists of Transylvania have even more to learn from Merrilee Elliott.
