Campus Life

Housing Requirements

Transylvania University seeks to provide an educational environment conducive to the learning process, and we consider our residence hall program a major part of that learning environment.

Full-time students (three course units or more during the fall or winter term; one course unit during May term) must live on campus. While all students are encouraged to live on campus, exceptions to this policy are made if the student:

  1. Achieves senior status (27 course units) before the beginning of the fall term;
  2. Is 21 years old before the beginning of the fall term;
  3. Is married and/or has dependents; or
  4. Lives with parent(s) and/or legal guardian within 50 miles of campus

Compliance with the housing requirement is a condition of enrollment. Students who live off campus contrary to policy will be placed on social probation and/or subject to loss of enrollment status and will be billed the room fee for each semester the student is off campus without approval. Requests for exemption from the housing requirement must document extreme circumstances and should be submitted through the Exemption Request Form to the Exemption Request Committee. These requests will be reviewed at least a twice a semester by the Exemption Request Committee. Requests will be considered only if the student is in compliance with the housing requirement at the time of the request. If a resident becomes a part-time student, they must contact the Department of Residence Life and Housing to be approved to remain on campus.

Compliance

Compliance with the housing requirement is a condition of enrollment. Students who live off campus contrary to policy will be placed on social probation, will incur housing fees and fines and/or will be subject to disenrollment. If students are part-time or drop to part-time status during a semester or May term, they may be required to live off campus.
