Events - MLK Day of Service

back to the Events Archive

We worked with Martha Gehringer’s Foundations of Liberal Arts class for the Winter term, the Bluegrass School and Community Garden Network, the Biology Club, and many other members of the Transylvania community.

The projects yielded 30 tomato cages, 90 planters for seedlings, and 10 compost bins for the Bluegrass School and Community Garden Network gardens. In addition to engaging in these projects, we heard a presentation about composting given by a Fayette County Master Gardener.

Support for our day's activities was provided by Ace Hardware, Southern State Cooperative, The Office of Community Service and Civic Engagement, Transylvania Community Garden Association, Bluegrass Pride, LFUCG-Division of Waste Management, Fayette County Master Gardeners, Sodexo, Central Kentucky Association of Volunteer Administrators, Kentucky Campus Compact, North Carolina Campus Compact, and The Corporation for National and Community Service.
