Accounting Spotlight

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

Each winter term, approximately 30 accounting majors set up shop to provide free income tax preparation for citizens in our neighborhood and the broader Lexington community. Over 200 tax returns are prepared annually, resulting in excellent professional experience and community service for our students.

CPA Exam

Transylvania's accounting graduates have a long and impressive history of success on the CPA exam. Although the current regulations of the accounting profession require 150 college semester hours to sit for the CPA exam, Transylvania's unique program entitles our graduates to sit for the exam upon completion of their undergraduate degree.

Recent Employers

The real mark of an accounting program is the extent to which graduates are placed in the accounting profession. Recent graduates have been employed by:

Ashland Oil, BKD, Blue & Co., Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Fifth Third Bank, Internal Revenue Service, J. Smuckers, Inc., Kentucky State Auditor’s Office, KPMG (USA and France), McGregor & Associates, Mountjoy Chilton and Medley, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Tempur-Pedic, Treasury Department, Tricon Global Restaurants

May Term Travel Courses

Graduate Studies

Although our students qualify to sit for the CPA exam without graduate studies, many choose to pursue master's and doctorate degrees.

Recent graduates have matriculated at Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, the University of Tennessee, the University of Kentucky, Belmont University, the University of Texas, University of Denver, Northeastern University, and many others.

Approximately half of our accounting students complete professional internships with local accounting firms, businesses, horse farms, and other entities. These internships greatly enhance the academic experience and often lead to full-time positions after graduation.
