Jessie McIntyre: Opening Doors Through Music

“My first year the choir traveled to Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy. I saw parts of the world that I never would have traveled to on my own, particularly Slovenia. It literally changed my life.”

Jessie McIntyreHailing from Jackson, Ky., Jessie McIntyre's tour of Europe with the Transylvania Choir as a first-year student was eye-opening. “Making music there was such a unique, rewarding experience,” she says. “We were able to speak to people across the world through the universal language of music. The trip also helped me bond with the best friends I've ever had, my fellow choir members.”

McIntyre '12 values the bonds she forms with her fellow voice students. In addition to the Transylvania Choir, she has also sung in the Grace Notes and Madrigal Singers ensembles. She appreciates Transylvania’s small classes and one-on-one attention. “Music is very personal and requires personal instruction,” she says. “I am always able to stop by the offices of my professors and ask for assistance in my work or just to talk about life.”

For McIntyre, Transylvania’s liberal arts environment is what makes the difference. “You can be involved with the music department even if you are majoring in something else,” she says. “Students have a broad range of interests and are free to pursue those interests through their studies.”
