Program Overview

At Transylvania, you can make the world your campus.

Where would you like to study? We offer countless opportunities to combine the excitement of travel with life-changing educational experiences, no matter your major.

Transylvania believes that a study abroad experience is a natural part of a liberal arts education. Living and learning in an unfamiliar setting among people with divergent backgrounds is a valuable way to understand more about yourself and the wider world. You will become better equipped to see our similarities rather than our differences and to make decisions that may have a global impact.

At Transylvania, you can choose to study abroad for an academic year, a semester, a summer, or during our unique May term. If the program is approved by a Transylvania faculty member, you can earn academic credit for your course work.

Scholarships are available for summer study abroad, and students may apply to use a portion of their Transylvania award money for semester study abroad. In addition, federal and state aid may also be used.

The Transylvania Edge

Transylvania’s academic calendar includes a four-week May term when students concentrate on one class and often get their first taste of international study. Many May term courses are team-taught and highly interdisciplinary, and some include domestic or international travel.

Students participating in those classes may study on campus for a week or so at the beginning of the term and then take off for destinations all over the world. Courses change each year, but recent international travel has included Argentina, China, England, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Peru, Spain, and the Philippines. May term classes also travel to domestic locations such as New York City, Chicago, and Las Vegas.
